New Workstations

The new workstations are now almost complete. Students will now have much more functional personal storage space and ample room to maneuver around their desk areas. The overhead storage is just low enough to maintain the openness of the space and still promote communication between students while working in the studio.

NEW BATHROOM

One of the bathrooms has now been almost entirely gutted. We will change the floor level and fixture layout in order to make it more accessible. This bathroom will also be equipped with new low-flow fixtures in order for us to do our part in conserving water.

NEW CEILING INSTALLATION

Furring channels, a framing component used for the new ceiling assembly, were installed in order to apply sheet rock onto the concrete slab and beams. Our goal was to clean up the ceiling’s design by creating a smooth white surface to refine the look of the entire space. This will also help to reflect more light than the previous popcorn ceiling and will make the entire studio feel much brighter.

INTRODUCTION

We have spent many long hours working hard for the SVA Interior Design department and now, come September, our space will be working hard for us. Updated workstations with increased functionality, ample counter space and display capabilities, new storage options, a really great student lounge and better work flow are just some of the important elements of the new design. This blog will enable you to watch all of these ideas come together from demolition through furniture installation.
